Caring for Your Companion

Caring for Your Companion

Every companion deserves the same care that made it — poured slowly, by hand, and meant to be enjoyed the same way. A few gentle guidelines will help it burn beautifully, safely, for its full life.

Prepare the Space

  • Place your companion on a flat, heat-resistant surface.
  • Protect delicate surfaces, like wood or marble, with a stand or tray.
  • Keep it away from anything flammable, and out of reach of children and pets.

The First Light

  • A match or lighter is a simple way to begin your ritual.
  • On the first burn, allow the flame to continue until the wax has melted evenly across the surface. This first burn helps establish an even burn pattern for the life of the candle.
  • A little smoke at first light can be natural and usually settles as the candle burns.

While It Burns

  • Allow your Companion to burn for a reasonable period at a time, and never leave a flame unattended.
  • Once lit, let it remain where it is. A burning or recently extinguished candle should not be moved.
  • Keep it away from drafts and allow adequate space between candles burning nearby.

Once the Flame Is Out

  • A snuffer, rather than blowing, helps prevent the wax from splashing.
  • If needed, gently re-center the wick while the wax is still soft.
  • Before lighting again, trim the wick as needed to help maintain a clean, steady flame.

Knowing When to Let Go

  • When the candle has reached the end of its usable life and only a small amount of wax remains, it is time to let your Companion rest. Continuing beyond this point is not recommended.

Afterward

  • Let the wax cool completely before moving the candle.
  • Store your Companion somewhere dry and temperate, away from direct sunlight and excessive heat or cold, so its color and character remain as you found them.
